Styleternity Coda
/kəʊdə/

Made to be enjoyed alongside a social media account of the same name, Styleternity Coda is a regular newsletter that charts a course somewhere between horology, delicious beverages (grain & grappa mainly) and various other disciplines which muddy the waters of craft with artistic aspiration. By and large, it’s written by me, Randy Lai: a relic of the #Menswear1.0 generation and editorial freelancer, primarily working in the luxury space.

Pictured: Yours truly, fourscore and 15 hL of Claret ago. Taken at the Asia Society Hong Kong.

I started writing in earnest about mechanical watchmaking in 2018. With Coda, the lodestar is to combine this with a range of topics that share at least a passing thematic similarity. More bluntly, this newsletter gives me a safe space to write about all the pursuits I find so fascinating. Sometimes separately. Often, in conjunction with one another.

And now…a word from our sponsors (except there aren’t any!)

As a writer who operates primarily in digital luxury media, the obvious advantage of this newsletter is that it exists separate of my activities in the former space. That means all of the content that goes into your Coda subscription is free from the fuckery of affiliate commissions, CTR, native advertising and other nefarious traps which have made the modern blogosphere such a bleak, unreliable landscape.

That’s not to say brands and individuals who support me in my capacity as a freelance writer won’t ever show up here: but if they do, there will be thoughtful, organic reasons for that, plus a strict moratorium on content that I’ve already written up on commission. If you’re interested, you can find a selection of my more polished commercial scribblings below.
